The Big Give photo competition winner

We had some amazing entries to the Big Give Photo Competition and last week we announced the shortlist. The overall standard of the entries was exceptional and our judge, Amelia Troubridge, found it very difficult to choose an overall winner.

However, there can only be one winning entry. We’re delighted to announce the winner is the fantastic charity Deki.

Huge congratulations to Deki for this exceptional photo of Halima, a South Sudanese refugee. Deki raised £18,638 using theBigGive.org.uk for their project, the ‘Entrepreneur business training programme’, through which Halima was supported. Thanks to a micro loan from Deki, Halima was able to triple her income, securing her family’s future.

Deki will receive £500 for their winning entry as well as being featured on the Big Give homepage. Congratulations again to all of our friends at Deki and their talented photographer, Adam Dickens.

A word from our judge

“Reading Halima’s story, I truly felt this photo conveyed the powerful message of the many women who are finding a better life for them and their children by working hard and learning the basic skills to earn a living, with the much needed support of charities helping them get started. Huge congratulations to Deki for this winning entry!”

Special recognition

Our judge, Amelia, also wanted us to give worthy mentions to two charities who submitted photos for the competition. She would like to give special recognition to Project Harar and David Shepherd Wildlife Foundation for their stunning entries. We hope to feature these photos and other entrants on the website very soon.
